Old Business
      
      Forum
·    Topic:  Affirmative Action at Washington and Lee: Did you fill a Quota?
·    Scheduled for Tuesday March 23, 2004 @ 7:00pm in Northen Auditorium
·    Discussion of Kisha getting a representative from Admissions.
·    Tiffany and Monea should have posters done by Wed. March 17, 2004
·    Kaela should have an article in next paper

New Business

       Introduction of new members from Mary Baldwin.

Voter Registration Drive
·    Targeting RCHS seniors
·    Scheduled to take place before they get out of school

      Fund Raising
·    Easter Baskets?
·    Fashion Show
     -The idea was agreed on by all members
     -Kisha will have to talk to Dean Futrell about contacting the organizer.
     - Sorority/ Fraternity members should be invited to participate
     -Would take place during Spring Term and feature Summer  fashions

Minutes for September 18, 2003


Education

-Tutoring Program will be resumed from last year.  Modifications will be made to the program.  The tentative start of the program for the year is October 22nd.  The tutoring program will be linked to the Night of Achievement.


-Letter to President:  the President's (of WLU) letter in response to our president's (of NAACP) letter was presented to the membership.  The letter was in response to the concern for the lack of minority representation in WLU's faculty


Membership

-ideas to increase membership will be discussed in the next meeting


Activities

-Voter Registration was suggested to be done in cooperation with the Young Democrats on campus

-Movie Nights were NAACP's contribution to the Commons Kickoff and may be continued throughout the year as a possible fundraiser for the organization


Leadership Positions

-Secretary:  Zakiyah Bradford was appointed to be secretary by the president until elections can be held for a new one. 

-Education:  Marinda Harrell is the former chairman of education.  She has officially resigned from her position.  Until further official appointment or an election is held, Kisha has been serving in that capacity.


Other Business

-Erin Hutchinson, the new head of minority recruitment in the admissions office, attended the meeting and introduced herself to the group.


Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 13, 2003 @ 7:00 pm.

Meeting called to order at 6:05 pm.

            1.    Will fill positions in September

            1.    Went fairly well.  Had the opportunity to get our name on                   campus.  We need to be more active and creative in our                       pursuit to attract new members.
            2.    Target incoming freshmen
            3.    Orientation week activity
                    a.    BBQ
                    b.    Send letters to incoming freshmen during the                               summer
                    c.    Visit minority students when they arrive to campus
                    d.    Kisha will talk to this year’s freshmen
                    e.    Activities table
                    f.    Possible satire – see if Marinda, Serena, Zahra,                           etc if they would like to perform.
    C.    Leadership Training
            1.    Online training
            2.    State Meeting - September 6, 2003 @ John Marshall HS in                   Richmond, VA.
